Electrodialysis process is a physical and chemical process which transports ions from a first solution to a second solution through the selective ion exchange membranes under the influence of external electric field. Electric driven membrane separation desalination equipment can remove salt of solution by multi-compartment electrodialysis process.
An electrodialysis equipment consists of spacers, ion exchange membranes, electrodes and end plates. An ion exchange membrane selectively transports differently charged ions. A cation exchange membrane lets only cations transport through, and an anion exchange membrane lets only anions transport through. Under the influence of an external DC electric field, salts in the diluting compartment can move to the concentrating compartments, thus forming a diluting stream and a concentrating stream.
